A Practice in Presence: A Sacred Dance of Shiva and Shakti

A Practice in Presence: A Sacred Dance of Shiva and Shakti

When I arrived at Govardhan Eco Village, I felt a quiet certainty that something meaningful would unfold. It wasn’t an expectation, but an intuition—a whisper from within that I decided to trust. What I couldn’t have foreseen was how deeply this experience would embody the sacred interplay of Shiva and Shakti, the cosmic principles of stillness and movement, of grounding and expansion.

Over the past few days, I’ve been sharing time with someone who embodies the steady, grounded energy of Shiva. In their calm attentiveness, I’ve felt the spaciousness to let my Shakti flow: vibrant, creative, and intuitive. Our connection feels like a sacred dance of opposites harmonizing—not as separate forces but as complementary energies creating wholeness.

Shiva, the unchanging consciousness, represents the stillness and awareness that holds space for Shakti, the dynamic force of life, to move and create. In our interactions—whether sharing music, walking under the stars, or exploring eye-gazing practices—this interplay of energies has come alive. Each moment has felt present, intentional, and filled with reverence for the sacredness of connection.

This evening, the connection deepened in a way that felt profoundly sacred yet natural. We began with harmonium and conversation, and as the evening unfolded, we found ourselves speaking about tantra and the practice of eye-gazing. The invitation to try it again felt like an opportunity to connect even more deeply. At first, I felt uneasy, but as I allowed myself to be fully present, the vulnerability gave way to trust. He asked for permission at every step, gently closing the distance between us.

The gaze itself was an act of darshan—seeing and being seen not just with the eyes but with the soul. I felt a mixture of emotions: safety, discomfort, and surrender. In this space of stillness, I felt truly seen, as though my Shakti essence was held and honored in the most sacred way. This wasn’t just about connection—it was about recognizing the divine energy within ourselves and each other.

As the practice unfolded, we shared a moment of intimacy, rooted in kindness, respect, and mutual admiration. He complimented my smile, my touch, and even the energy of my skin, reminding me to stay present in my body and allow myself to feel beautiful and seen. His presence was calm and intentional, and the way he asked for permission—always grounding the moment in choice and respect—helped me relax into my Shakti. This experience felt softer, kinder, and more sacred than anything I’ve known before.

Of course, moments of comparison and insecurity surfaced—memories of past relationships, doubts about my body—but I kept grounding myself in the present. This connection is a reflection of the inner work I’ve done to honor my own energy, my Shakti, and to attract someone who can embody the Shiva-like qualities of stillness, presence, and respect.

We closed the evening the way it began: with gratitude and eye-gazing. He even suggested we find time tomorrow to reflect on the experience together, which felt refreshing and aligned with the principle of ahimsa—approaching connection with care, respect, and gentleness. This is such a contrast to the avoidance and miscommunication I’ve experienced in the past. It is a reminder that I deserve connection that feels safe, intentional, and sacred.

This connection, even if temporary, is teaching me about balance, presence, and trust. It’s showing me that relationships are not destinations but practices—spaces where we can grow, reflect, and honor the divine energies within ourselves and each other. This dance of Shiva and Shakti is not just about connection with another person but also about integrating these energies within myself: embracing stillness, honoring movement, and finding wholeness.

For now, I’m not concerned with where this will lead. What matters is that I am here, fully present and immersed in the sacred practice of connection. And that is more than enough.

With love and gratitude,

Eve AKA Kali Grayce
